An old pool that is no longer used is causing some concerns for parents who fear that large amount of water is attracting hundreds of mosquitoes.
After the city warned residents to make sure to not have excess water around their homes in order to prevent more mosquitoes, a parent wants something done.
"I think that's really wrong because they're telling us to throw out our garbage, old tires we have from our houses so how come the city is asking us to do that but the swimming pool is in that condition."
Maria Terrazas takes her five children to the Farias recreation center which is right next to a closed down boys and girls club. The club is closed, but one thing left behind that has some nearby parents worried is the pool. Even though there is a fence around the pool, Terrazas doesn't think that is enough.
"It is a danger for the kids. It's ok that it's closed, but you know how kids are. They're going to jump the fence and go inside."
She adds that she's worried about the potential breeding ground for mosquitoes that could potentially carry diseases, especially after the recent news of a deadly virus in Texas.
"I heard the west nile virus is in Texas and I know people have already died. That's so wrong. They should come here and clean it up."
We spoke to the assistant director of the boys and girls club who says they haven't had complaints, but he assures us the pool will be drained tomorrow.
"We're starting to drain. We drained this pool here and we're going to start draining that one tomorrow and the other one on Wednesday at Lamar Bruni."
Lopez says no one should worry about the pool. The boys and girls club is in the process of shutting down the clubs for two weeks to get ready for the fall program. Lopez says it's not just the pool that needs attention at the particular club.
"It's under some renovations right now for the gym floor and the roof needs repairs, so we're gonna be in the process of doing that. Once the repairs are made, we're going to open back up."
We'll follow up tomorrow to make sure that pool does get drained.
