The STARS Scholarship fund, a non-profit organization, has announced that this year's Extravaganza featured guest will be Mexico's 56th President Felipe Calderon.
The announcement was made Friday morning during a press conference held at L&F Distributors. The non-profit organization comes together each year to garner funds to help local students achieve their academic goals. The event is underwritten by L&F Distributors, and Anheuser-Busch so that 100 percent of the sponsored funds benefit students from south Texas.
L&F Distributor Manager, Steve La Mantia, says "STARS has been going on in Laredo for 11 years, and has helped contribute over $19 million dollars for scholarships for South Texas kids, benefiting more than 9,000 students."
KGNS, your good neighbor station, is also a sponsor this year. The Extravaganza event has featured other well-known celebrities in the past like Karl Rove, Seth Meyers, and Steve Forbes.
