Thousands of people are out shopping at stores across Laredo taking advantage of the tax-free weekend.
Our Annette Garcia has been out there with all the shoppers who woke up early to take advantage of the incentive.
“We opened up at 8 a.m. and close at 10 o’clock tonight.”
Extended hours at stores across town, giving customers more time to shop this weekend.
For clothes and school supplies and everything else on the tax free list.
“I was looking for a Finish Line store for shoes.”
Stores are bracing themselves for the tax-free weekend managers say is the second busiest weekend of the year.
People were spotted shopping early at HEB Plus.
The manager there said the first rush of the day came at 7 a.m.
The most popular items though have been school uniforms.
Parents searched for sizes over at academy.
“I’m here to shop for my goddaughter for school clothes.”
The incentive saves you about eight pennies for every dollar spent but parents say when you’re shopping for a lot of kids that all adds up.
“It adds up I bought my kids school clothes already and a couple of weeks ago I brought her brother and now I’m buying her school clothes and her sister.”
“It might not sound like a lot but you do save $8 for every hundred you spend especially for families bigger than 5. You save 16, 20 and it keeps on adding up to a lot more.”
So if you plan of doing some shopping this weekend be prepared for the crowds and take some patience.
Tax-free weekend runs through Sunday.
