Thirty Pounds of Marijuana Seized

By KGNS News

A routine traffic stop ends with almost 30 pounds of marijuana confiscated and it was all being shipped by U.S. mail.
It all started in December when a Webb County Sheriff's deputy stopped a vehicle from a company subcontracted by the U.S. postal service.
A K-9 unit alerted the deputy to a large box inside the vehicle.
The box was seized and a federal warrant was obtained this Tuesday.
When the box was opened, officers found three large packages wrapped in aluminum foil that contained marijuana.
The total street value added up to more than $15,000.
The package was originally from Zapata county and was addressed to a location in New York.
An ongoing investigation is underway. Those involved could face federal charges.
