UISD held a meeting today to share some good news with their administration. James Johnson has more, James. That's right... UISD had a big announcement to share with their staff, which had the whole room applauding with the announcement.
It was a packed house at the student activity complex...as UISD teachers and administration waited in anticipation on whether or not they would be receiving a pay raise. The UISD school district... has had a tough two years after having to cut back on their budget.
[cg:newsuper\gloria rendon\uisd assistant superintendent] 16:15:15:28 it's been a struggle the last two years but this year we came through
With this pay increase...administration will see a 3% increase in their pay with an additional five hundred dollars to principles. Teachers will receive a 6% increase as well as hourly employees. Something teacher Dinah Pena is trilled about.
[cg:newsuper\dinah pena\uisd teacher] 16:23:05:06 I feel good that were getting a pay raise. 16:23:55:15 what are you going to do with the extra money? Go on vacation? No haha probably just catch up on bills
During the two years of budget cuts...teachers were asked to work with less. Teacher’s class sizes increased, some were asked to teach extra periods, and UISD lost their pre kinder program. Though times were hard and cuts had to made, UISD was able to keep all of their staff employed.
[cg:newsuper\roberto santos\uisd superintendent] 16:30:32:29 no one was let go. Any vacancies we didn't fill but now things have gotten better for us.
Everything has now turned around for UISD next school year...and now over 6,000 employees can expect to see more money in their pocket.
At tonight’s meeting...UISD also discussed a 416 million dollar bond program...which will be part of constructing 13 new schools, along with other projects. The trustees plan to vote on this proposal mid august. For KGNS, I’m James Johnson.
