The latest numbers out of Austin show the unemployment rate in Laredo has increased.
Despite Texas employers adding over 12,000 jobs in June, Laredo still took a hit.
The Texas Workforce Commission says the unemployment rate across Texas is down from a year ago and remains below the national average, but Laredo’s unemployment rate grew from 7% in May to 7.9% in June.
Laredo's mayor says the increase is concerning, but says Laredo is better off now than it was even a year ago when the unemployment rate was 9%.
Speaking from a conference out of town, he told us he's optimistic things would turn around.
Texas Workforce figures show Midland has the lowest unemployment rate in the state with just over 4%.
The Rio Grande Valley has the highest at 12%.
