Elections officials tell us barring any problems, early voting results should be released by 7pm this evening. On this election day, lots of people headed out to the polls to cast their ballot, but officials say their work in counting votes began early this morning. With more than 30,000 votes cast in the 2-week period of early voting, election officials tell us they began counting votes early this morning. However, with most of the ballots being two pages long, officials tell us 60,000 sheets of paper need to be counted. The more errors that are made by voters—Webb County Elections Administrator Oscar Villarreal says— the longer it'll take. “If the voter circled the candidate instead of marking the oval or whatever, the machine spits it out so those have to be inspected one by one to make sure the voter intent." Villarreal also tells us voting machines have been checked twice to make sure they are working properly. Once early votes are tabulated and reported, election judges will then begin the daunting task of counting election day ballots. Officials say they anticipate wrapping up by midnight or 1:00 AM.
