This year's Jalapeño Festival was a huge success with people from all over 8-country coming to the Gateway City to enjoy one of WBCA's main event. Last night, festival goers enjoyed music from Pesado and witnessed the anticipated jalapeño eating contest . Twenty- five courageous contestants sacrificed their mouths and stomaches to take on the challenge to be crowned this year's jalapeño eating champion. Photojournalist Isac Hernandez captured the swallowing, sweating, beer drinking and Pepto Bismo sipping fun.
The winner of this year's jalapeño eating contest was Marc Handson out of San Antonio who took down 119 jalapeños in just 15 minutes. The record is held by professional eater Patrick "Deep Dish" Bertoletti who in 2008 ate 266 jalapeños.
