Deputy Arrested for Alleged Drug Possession

By KGNS News

A Webb County Sheriff's deputy is arrested Monday night, along with his son, after police find heroin inside their home.

This was the scene last night as Laredo Police went to serve a warrant on Nelson Jasso Vela, at an apartment near Loring and Guadalupe. When they arrived at the residence, heroin was seen in plain sight by the officers. The father of the suspect, Deputy Celerino Vela, was home at the time. A search warrant was secured and a drug dog was brought in to search the residence. Police found several more doses of heroin inside the apartment. Both the deputy, Celerino Vela, and the son were arrested on drug charges.

LPD says the investigation has been going on for several months and was a joint effort with the Webb County Sheriff's Department.

The younger Vela in the case is no stranger to the law. He was arrested weeks ago along with a cook from the Laredo International Airport for having drugs on airport property.

According to an airport spokesperson, 24 year old Nelson Jasso Vela and Pedro Kladis were arrested by airport police weeks ago. We're told both men were in a vehicle at the airport and when approached by police, Vela tried to use the car to flee the scene. Airport police managed to stop them and found heroin and other drug paraphernalia in their possession.

This is not the first time Kladis has been arrested for drug possession either. He was busted back in January 2011 when he was found with 5 syringes in his possession and heroin in his wallet. In this case, the two were arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

This is really good to here about this deputy, Imagine for how many years he has been smuggling contraband inside the detention center. Lets hope this keeps on going on with investigations within law enforcement departments itself. I know alot of Laredo PD officers are coke heads also and there just working as if they are a positive romodel for the city. I mean look at all the cops that have been arrsted already one for assisting in drug transportation the other for assaulting his wife and another for assaulting a gw restraunt emplyee and still escaping from a PD vehicle. You all know who you are and I say as title holders of such top named jobs and the faces of Laredo and Webb county law enforcement officers once you do the crime and make the city and county look bad you should be terminated reguardless of who you are but i guess ccity and county officials dont see it that way. and just because you did something good after your crimes doesnt mean it makes you a good person you are t

we got a war on drugs too said on Tuesday, Oct 18 at 11:03 PM

I dont see any "organized crime " charges against the officer, Why the judges left them free in first place ?? they were recently arrested for drugs. How in the hell these cops want to fight "violence", when they are supposed to fight corruption in their own place of employement.

a joint operation with the corrupt cuellar sheriff office. that's why they had to go get a warrant to enter the apartment. laredo pd did a great job and martin is trying to make his department look like there doing their job. nice to see the pro 8 news is backing martin. how many times do you have to mention the sheriff office in this news. can you say damage control.
