City raising 8-liner fees

By Ray Gomez

City council officials voted to raise the fees for eight-liner permits.
According to councilman Gene Belmares the permits will now cost $250 dollars up from $150.
The extra money will be used for the cost of enforcement by the Laredo police department and planning and zoning.
Gene Belmares, City Councilman
"The challenge that we have is making sure they have compliance with zoning laws first."
The police department recently made two eight-liner raids that cost 18 to 20 thousand dollars per raid.

Has Pro8News ever considered doing some "investigative journalism" into the dealings of the city council and 8-liner businesses? Why, in a city where the Chief of Police is arrested for accepting bribes from these businesses, do they still allow them to florish?
