New law makes "maquinita" raids easier

By Ray Gomez

New legislation will make it easier and cheaper for law enforcement agencies to raid eight liner businesses.
According to the new legislation it will allow agencies to store only a small part of the eight-liner machine.
Before law enforcement had to confiscate every single machine in the establishment.
Now they are able to remove and store just the computer chips from the machines.
The bill should help law enforcement save thousands of dollars in storage and transportation fees.

How odd that the same maquinitas are always targeted. How about one of the judges brother who owns and runs 2 places. Why are his and other certain ones never raided? These are supposedly illegal operations, but like always certain people have priviledges i guess. I see nothing wrong with owning these places, but lets be fair - all or nothing.

Those "chips" from the maquinitas are the ones that control the winnings. Once the police or task force removes them they should be calibrated to proper casino standards. If they are not they should not be allowed to operate in Laredo.

Laredoans, it's our City It should be us to determine if such business should flourish here. Zapata County has run them all out of the County. The Valley does not have Maquinitas...why? Only Laredo. Close them all down. They send a bad message and give Laredo a bad image.

… continued, The City of Laredo is contributing in a manner to the addictiveness brought on by the dream to win big at Las Maquinitas for the simple reason of permit fees. Local leaders are looking the other way and not helping much. To add, the City of Laredo is owned by the taxpayer. I say that the maquinitas issue should be given to the people of Laredo by way of a vote or referendum. Or, we can force the maquinitas to play by the proper casino rules and pay out what they should pay out.

….from continued, what’s more, non-regulated machines only make money for the owners and anyone else involved in the operation of the maquinitas. What the City of Laredo should be doing is making an ordinance where it states that Maquinitas ownership put a certain percentage of earnings into a budget or purse for which when people are being evicted from their homes or can’t pay their utilities there is a place where they can draw from. continued on next post.

Here's my take on las maquinitas in Laredo. The City of Laredo officials are making a huge mistake allowing the maquinitas to run their clandestine businesses knowing that they are only sucking the meager checks from the elderly, disabled, mentally challenged, poor and downtrodden. These maquinitas are NOT regulated, meaning they don't pay out casino standards. Laredoans are getting addicted and losing all they have hoping to cash in. That day will never come. continued on next post.
