Former Border Patrol agent returns as fugitive

By Ray Gomez

One of Laredo’s most wanted fugitives was located by the U.S. Marshals in Guanajuato, Mexico.
David Cruz a former Border Patrol agent was arrested back in January of 2008 for conspiracy to transport illegal immigrants for financial gain.
Cruz was working with Border Patrol in the Laredo sector and resigned in September of 2007.
After pleading guilty, Cruz was sentenced to serve 50 months in federal prison and ordered to surrender to the New York metropolitan correction center in October of 2008.
Cruz fled and failed to surrender.
U.S. Marshals in Laredo and Los Angeles located Cruz in Guanajuato, Mexico.
His wife Susana Lopez Portillo and a third suspect Bertha Esquivel were also arrested.
David Cruz and his wife were the owners of downtown restaurant known as Burger Patrol.
The restaurant raised many eyebrows when first opened.
A mannequin of a Border Patrol agent could be seen outside the business wearing the former agents uniform.
In fact, many believe the entire restaurant seemed to parody the work of the Border Patrol and its policies.

Let's all get out and welcome back one of Laredo's very own heroes. How many illegals did he help get through.Probably his whole family and those of many other Laredoans.Have a parade and give him the key to the city.He will probably not even be prosecuted here for such a "crime".The D.A.'s office will look the other way on this one,he is not white or asian.Welcome Home Hero!!

its not the D.A.s office that prosecutes this case. its a federal case not a state. it will be a united states attorney that handles this not a district one.

He was given 50 months and ran like every other Hispanic or Mexican that gets the chance.Run back to Mexico and take another 25 million of your families with you.Real Americans do not care for Mexicans, contrary to their stupid saying "You need us Mexicans"Not at all.At least if he goes to jail in the north, maybe someone in prison can speak Spanish to him. That is the only place that Spanish is spoken outside of Texas, where thhey put up with Mexicans,is prison or a jail cell.Viva La Raza!tacos.

Alright if you say Mexicans aren't needed here then provide jobs for those that might end up unemployed if Mexicans don't come. Don't be an idiot and think logically.

Besides why would he get a chance to run away in the first place? Don't blame him blame the CJ system that gave him that chance to run!

The cost of supporting Mexicans,Lonestar, child care, free lunches, free hospitalization, law enforcement etc.,etc,etc. far outweighs any good a Mexican can do.It only takes one "white"person to do the job that 3-4 Mexicans do anyway by the time you have to redo it and get it done right. There is nothing they contribute to society, unless you think 12-13 year old mothers is the norm. And with their great family values, how many of those children are fathered by family members. One thing Mexicans can do??
