Medical examiner doctor Coreen Stern...has ruled the death of a two year old that died over the weekend a homicide.
Meanwhile the Laredo police department is keeping a tight lip on the investigation.
Our Noraida Negron was at the home today and has the latest in our top story tonight.
Detectives worked through the weekend gathering evidence on the death investigation of a two year old.
Joe Baeza, Laredo police department, "We secure the scene Saturday morning. There was a Police officer that stayed to secure the scene. Come Sunday morning investigators came back for a secondary sweep of the entire home."
Since then investigators have been interviewing potential witnesses in the case.
Medical examiner Coreen stern ruled the death of two-year-old Katherine Cardenas a homicide.
But police are not releasing any information regarding the circumstances of her death.
"What we are doing right now preliminary is a death investigation but in all truthfulness is being handled as you would a homicide investigation."
Police say they received a 9-1-1 call from the home stating a two year old was missing.
Officers arrived to check the area and after several minutes they found the body of the girl.
According to police the body was found outside the home.
"The condition and the exact location of where the child was found is not available right now for release because is part of the investigation."
Meanwhile the outside of the home was transformed into a small memorial for Katherine.
Neighbors had already placed candles and stuffed animals in memory of the two year old.
Hoping they can find out what happened to their little angel.
Police are still investigating the case and gathering evidence from the home.

Words cannot express the sadness of this tragedy. I only pray that the person that did this horrible thing be found and brought to justice. And the mother should also be held accountable. Where the hell was she when this was being done to her child!!!!!

You cannot condone a specific race for what has happend here. It happens in every race and class. Have some respect for the child who has died people!!

They're not mexicans. They're all from Laredo but the whole family have a history of being gang related. It's just too sad

Wow man I hope that never happens to you... really I bet you wouldn't be able to take it, and if you have something against Mexicans, man up and tell us straight up what your problem with Mexicans is. All I know is that the mother was asleep when it happens and believe me you don't want to know the details, they know exactly what happened but they don't want to say it because it's too heinous to describe.

From what I have understood, this little baby was neglected and ABUSED. I pray that everyone who was involved in the brutal killing of this baby pays deeply for what they did. The parents are very much to blame for what happened, they cared more about boozing than what was happening to thier daughter. May she rest in peace she is with God now, now she is protected.

I hate that everyone around those kids knew what was going on their house,and no grown up said anything noone stood up for those kids.Now this happens and everyone is taking flowers and teddy bears what for this child is dead you could it have done something for her when she was alive!You could it been her voice. She in a better place now. And these is not a mexican thing! Its a unresponsible parent,neighbor,family,friend.People please if you see a child being abuse or neglet dont turn your back

People did report the abuses before. The children were removed but given back to the mother again. Other people did their part in this case but CPS will have to answer that question.

I do hope they catch the "person" responsible--and I use that term loosely. (I won't use the word "animal" since that would insult the animals!) I also think that the mother has some culpability in this tragedy. A young, single, irresponsible mother with seven children NOT going to school, NOT properly immunized or cared for--this was a tragedy long overdue. I don't buy her relative's claims that she was a good mother. She shares in the guilt of this poor child's death.
