Pro 8 Update: Police say toddler death "gruesome"

By Ray Gomez

The Laredo police department is still not releasing any new information in the case of the death of a two-year-old girl.
Not even the medical examiner will comment on the cause of death.
But the case has touched many in the community.
Police are calling the death the most gruesome they have ever seen yet they still wont tell us the details.
Today we went by the home were the two-year-old girl was found Saturday morning.
As you can see an outpouring of sympathy for the family, stuff animals, dolls and even an angel stand in the front lawn of the home.
Neighbors have also put candles in memory of Katherine Cardenas.
At this point police are still going through evidence.
And are interviewing family members and friends of the family to find out what happened.
According to police an officer found the girl inside a storage cabinet outside of the home.
They won’t comment on the conditions of the girl but they do say the case hits home.
Joe Baeza, Laredo Police Department:
"They all have children and they are fathers. So whenever you deal with a case specifically with a victim this young it is important for them."
After performing an autopsy Medical Examiner Coreen Stern ruled the case a homicide yesterday.
Right now police say they are following strong leads in the case.
We will continue following the story and bring you updates as new information becomes available.

Mr. District Attorney, get busy! You need to get to the bottom of this death and "hang the murderer!" I never thought I would say this but I hope I am called for "Jury Duty" when whoever did this thing comes to trial! "Deliberation" would be forthcoming with "EXTREME PREJUDICE!"

There is no mercy for this heinous crime. Everyone invloved should received capital punishment, however, that might not even be punishment enough. They will be put to deaath peacefully while the child they killed was brutally murdered. They should be amputated litlle by little until they die. Let them feel the same pain this angel felt. May she RIP.

I was informed by a reliable source that the DA's office is FULL of these cases. I remember a case where the parents dumped their baby's body in East Ldo. I also remember the little girl who was chained n held captive by a truck driver. I would be more concerned about the stories you DON'T hear about n start by supporting the DA's office n other orgs like SCAN. U would be astonished by the sex slaves n kidnappings that happen every day. N then there's the case of the son who raped his mother.

I think the three guys that did this should be punished . How could they have done that. It was a 2 year old, she had a world to live. If I could I would torture them myself. Why are they backing up. If I were the judge, I would give them capital punishment. They should stand for their own actions. It was the mothers falt and everyone knows it. She had to accepted. She must feel very guilty. I hate her how could she let that happen. Im very angry. I hope the police find them and put them in jai
