A pre trial hearing was set for Webb county tax assessor Patricia Barrera this morning. Barrera was in the 406 district court with her attorney. Also in court were three other employees accused of various charges ranging from promotion of gambling to organized criminal activity. The charges stem from a lengthy investigation by the state attorney general's office into gambling at the tax assessor’s office. Barrera’s lawyer filed a motion for continuance. According to her lawyer he hasn't had the opportunity to review depositions in several civil cases in the last 30 days. The judge granted the request. Donato Ramos, Barrera's attorney, "Well the Attorney general is obviously trying to rush into a trial and I think we are entitled to review all the evidence specifically as its being developed." The pre-trial hearing was rescheduled for January of next year.
