Tax assessor Barrera's trial rescheduled for 2010

By Ray Gomez

A pre trial hearing was set for Webb county tax assessor Patricia Barrera this morning.
Barrera was in the 406 district court with her attorney.
Also in court were three other employees accused of various charges ranging from promotion of gambling to organized criminal activity.
The charges stem from a lengthy investigation by the state attorney general's office into gambling at the tax assessor’s office.
Barrera’s lawyer filed a motion for continuance.
According to her lawyer he hasn't had the opportunity to review depositions in several civil cases in the last 30 days.
The judge granted the request.
Donato Ramos, Barrera's attorney, "Well the Attorney general is obviously trying to rush into a trial and I think we are entitled to review all the evidence specifically as its being developed."
The pre-trial hearing was rescheduled for January of next year.

The State of Texas is not going to be made look like a fool. Pat Barrera is going to be found guilty. The State is going to make someone a deal that they won't be able to refuse. I'm siding with the State, I don't believe that Pat is squeaky clean.

Patricia Barrera, Webb County TA/C, has been caught all but redhanded; what's the problem? The Attorney General is not "RUSHING" into anything! The Court needs to stop allowing her to stall this trial. She needs to go to jail where she and her accomplices belong. There is no getting out of this PB. You pushed the envelope to far this time!
