City Council considers bus fare rate hike

By Ray Gomez

Representatives of El Metro made a presentation at Monday night's City Council meeting, proposing that their rates be raised to help with costs. El Metro was proposing that their rates be increased 25 cents across the board and bus transfers be eliminated. Still some members of council felt the rate hike would be too much for students who may have to pay double to take the bus. One council member even suggested that the city do more to make businesses, colleges, and universities pay up if they want to use the transit system. The proposal was set to be approved at Monday’s meeting but the item was tabled instead.
