Economy causes Nuevo Laredo doctors to leave city

By Ray Gomez

For years many Laredoans have gone across the border in seek of medical attention. Mexican doctors and dentists have also been popular for tourists. Now it will be allot harder to find medical help across the border. Literally dozens of Nuevo Laredo dentists and doctors who set up shop in the downtown area are packing up their bags and moving to other cities in Mexico. The economy has hit them in the pocket book and they say they can no longer maintain offices. They've been forced to shut down their businesses, because of lack of tourists. Physicians blame news about the bloodshed across the border and the swine flu scare. City leaders estimate ninety to a hundred doctors have left this year alone.
