Church Celebrates 60th Anniversary

By Cynthia Cano

Many residents in Laredo spend their Sundays practicing their religion and today marked a special day in one church's history. First United Methodist Church located at 1200 McClelland Avenue celebrated its 60th Anniversary today. In its history, the church has opened its doors to the people of Laredo and has allowed its patrons the opportunity to worship and be involved in the community. The church's pastor says the important part of today is discovering how the church can continue to make progress in the future. Pastor Peter Michael Aguilar says, 'we have done a lot of repairs and upgrades and improvements to the church and what we are looking at now is how to develop our program so we can become more effective in the life ministry of the church.' The First United Methodist Church currently hosts services every Sunday.
