The Webb County Medical Examiner's Office is making headlines once again. This time, it's in an article featured in the Fort Worth Star Telegram. The report talks about corruption among medical examiners throughout the state. Our Cynthia Cano has more on our top story tonight. Cynthia?
"Thanks Concetta. The Fort Worth Star Telegram is reportedly launching a series of articles dealing with corruption within the medical examiner's offices throughout the state. Today's article spoke about autopsy blunders made by medical examiners from several different counties in Texas, including Webb County. The article also discusses the frequency with which autopsy mistakes are made and the qualifications, or lack thereof, needed to become a medical examiner. The article mentions that, while the Texas Medical Board does keep record of physicians who fall short of the standards of care, it wasn't until the year 2000 that it began to consider the performance of an autopsy as a medical practice. The article also made a brief mention of Dr. Stern's autopsy mishap in Alabama. There, she ruled the death of a newborn infant a homicide, landing the baby's mother on death row. Other medical experts that were later called into the case, ruled the baby was a stillborn. All charges against the infant's mother were then dismissed. If you would like to learn more about these and other related articles, you can log on to their website at www.star-telegram.com."

I read the article... It says 6 EXPERTS testified she used "junk science" to determine the cause of death.. Did the county ask for any references before hiring her? It's just too bad!!

I don't know BJ, it sounds interesting. There are some very important cases that have yet to be solved and Dr Stern performed the autopsies.
