Imagine being inconvenienced daily because of an incident that happened 3 months ago!
Tonight 16 homeowners in the River Oaks subdivision off Mines Road can tell you its been a nightmare.
They’ve been dealing with having no mailbox since the day their community mailbox unit was knocked down three months ago.
Concetta Callahan picks up the story from here.
It’s been a horrendous ordeal for these 16 homeowners.
They say its not fair that every other homeowner can just walk down the street and pick up their mail and they have to go all the way to the Del mar post office to get theirs
It’s been months since a car backed into a community mailbox destroying it completely.
Maria Garcia - Has no mailbox
"One of those vehicles backed and knocked it down and there was mail all over the place."
"It’s been 3 months since that car backed into this mailbox that used to be here and still 16 residents cant pick up their mail."
No one else was affected but these families.
The other 2 mailboxes are there and only an empty space where theirs used to be.
Now these people have to collect their mail at the Del mar post office.
Antonio Hinojosa - Inconvenienced
"We’re working, we're busy, and it’s not always easy for us to drive from here all the way to Del mar. It costs money for gas."
Allot of them don’t have the time to go pick up their mail everyday or by the time they get there the post office its closed.
"I pick up my mail and already have past due bills. I'm paying late fees which is very upsetting."
The college students in these households are also suffering from the problem.
Alyna Lira - Missed Deadlines
"I had stuff from school I was suppose to take in 2 weeks ago I had to take in stuff that had to be signed by the 24Th of September.. Yeah... It’s going to be October already."
"I found out through my daughter that she missed a deadline for a grant for college because she did not pick up the mail."
It’s a problem that has haunted them for 3 months too long and they just want their mailbox back.
"I’m spending my money, wasting my time, paying late bills, and that's not fair. Bottom line, I want to know who's responsible and when will it be taken care of?"
Ironically enough, we had the same problem as those 16 families.
The Del Mar post office closes at 4-30 and was closed when we tried contacting them.
We will bring you an update as soon as we get in touch with that post office.
