City forming delegation to visit Central America

By Ray Gomez

City officials are forming a delegation to travel to 7 countries in 8 days by the end of the month.
It’s an idea Texas A&M International University sought to make a reality about 15 years ago.
Their Western Hemispheric Trade Center was initially created to look for trade connections with Central American countries.
City officials agree they need to expand their trade efforts and not solely focus on trade with Mexico.
"There is a lot of trade going on and goods that are being air freighted from Costa Rica, for example, and other South American countries to Florida, but the distance between Costa Rica and Miami is exactly the same as Costa Rica to Laredo." Councilman Dr. Michael Landeck told Pro 8 News.
The delegation is expected to travel to 7 Central American countries in 8 days at the end of November.
During their trip city officials will invite those countries to begin exporting their goods through the port of Laredo.

Once again, let's just spend more taxpayer money to give these already overpaid and overcompensated excuses for city leaders a big vacation. They are experts at nothing. We need to send qualified, knowledgeable people if we are to send anybody at all. Pro 8 News: why don't you look deeper into this story? It sounds like malfeasance and misuse of taxpayer money.

The City delegation will not be composed of people who know about trade and logistics are about. The effort is commendable; unfortunately, those visiting are just that visitors. Get a true expert delegation then it might mean something.

But I hope does not end like Betty Flores and her dealings with the communists.

Hi, my name is Betty Flores. If you don't remembe me, I was the former Mayor of Laredo. While still Mayor of Laredo I took a trip to China with my Sister and the current City Secretary. This trip was very important for the City of Laredo. The working trip was directed in bringing more economy to Laredo. To this day I have to say the entire trip was a failure for Laredo, but, a big vacation for me. Thanks Taxpayers of Laredo, Betty Flores. Now, what's with this trip to South America?
