115 gang members arrested in Laredo

By Ray Gomez

A six-month operation ordered by the Texas governor resulted in Laredo Police and federal authorities identifying dozens of gang members. The governor's gang initiative is geared toward disrupting and identifying gangs along the border.

The Laredo Police Department in conjunction with ATF and ICE were able to round up gang members in a six-month operation.

During the operation they were able to identify more than 500 gang members in Laredo.

The top three gangs were Mexican Mafia, Texas Syndicate and Hermanos Pistoleros.

" Not all of them were arrested, but they were identified and basically they are now part of our intel which we can pass along to other agencies."

The profiles of these gang members will be kept in case they are wanted in the future or have committed a crime.

"We were able to identify several members from cartels and Latin America gangs that were passing through here."

During the operation 50 drug-related warrants were served. Police were able to seize almost six hundred pounds of marijuana.

Other drugs seized include 83 grams of cocaine and 102 grams of heroin.

Also police were able to seize a significant number of weapons like these.

According to police, cartels use these weapons to kill, intimidate and to reinforce positions of power in the region.

Around 115 gang members were arrested; most of them live here in Laredo.

"We have people who are part of these notorious organizations, prison gangs, cartels, we do have them here locally."

Other South Texas border cities received the governor's gang initiative grant as well.

The profiles and information on 500 gang members police were able to identify will be shared with other law enforcement agencies.

Federal Agents..YES! said on Tuesday, Nov 17 at 8:41 AM

It was made due to the fact that Federal Agents were involved, I hope they took some Corrupt LPD to jail together with the gang members. Corruption in LPD is something that should never be tolarated, Because they are the first line of defense in this country. United States that is.

We need space to accomodate Copper thieves fireghters, vehicle scratchers and wrestlers that are housed in the firefighter's stations. and space for LPD members releasing dangerous dogs from the Animal Shelter to give them back to the owners free of charge. no fines no shelter fees no reabies shot asked.

Arrested....sure, what will be the punishment? Judicial laws can only do so much. Nevertheless, thanks for taking these incorrigibles off our streets.

Never I get your point, and by any means do i condoned corruption, never had and never will. The difference is that I also recognized the hard work and dedication that most of the officers have for their community. Not every officer is corrupt. Remember corruption exists everywehre. local, state, federal level. teachers, doctors, NYPD, Chicago PD even las vegas! is the awful truth of giving power to people. that it needs to be controlled and get rid of the bad apples yes! but also give recognit

also give praise and recognition where is due! Remember if you think we have it bad go to Nvo Laredo and live there or Cd. Juarez! Again we should get out that mentality that all the law enforcement in laredo are corrupt and support them. We need to have a better community relationship with our police alot can be improve instead of that us vs. them mentality. But again we are talking about laredo what can we expect!!!!

Give recognition when is due said on Thursday, Nov 19 at 12:54 PM

That was their job and they get paid for it. Law Enforcement is a carreer with all the risks and pay. If a LPD wants to double dip at the taxpayers money, then he does not have any business being paid as an officer representing the taxpayers in the streets.

I am glad to see that these gangs are being identified & arrested. PD & other law enforcement agencies are doing their job. I am grateful & hope we do not have another murder in our communities. Parents, all threats to your life or children's life need to be taken seriously. We just lost someone to a violent act & the killers are free on bond. When will it ever stop? Why did the JP allow them to be out? PD please continue to track those criminals & gang members.

At least a hundred of those arrested are also members of Lulac or La Raza. Terrorist organizations that hope to see the liberty of America replaced by the Anarchy of Mexico. All financed by the stupid American tax-payer.
