A former Rio Bravo mayor is arrested on charges of theft, but this is not the first time the he has been in trouble with the law.
"With all the wildfires that we witnessed last year. I think this is a miracle for us."
That was former Rio Bravo mayor Juan Gabriel Gonzalez last year.
Now he is facing charges of theft stemming from a case when he was a mayor of Rio Bravo.
According to authorities Gonzalez had given away a city owned vehicle to somebody else and that vehicle had not been returned.
The Texas Rangers served Gonzalez with a warrant Wednesday afternoon.
He was booked at the Webb County Jail where he posted bail, his bond was set at $10,000.
But this is not the first time Gonzalez has been arrested.
He also faced charges of driving while intoxicated back in July of 2007.
He was arrested for DWI after a Laredo police officer pulled him over along Highway 359.
He refused to take a Breath-A-Lyzer test, and was arrested.
His driver's license was revoked after that case.
Now he is under investigation by the Texas Rangers on charges of theft.

You guys are out to lunch. You don't know where his money came from. He could have invested over time, his wife could be making all the money, or they won the lottery! This whole thing sounds like a sham, plain and simple. He'll get off and the thing will be buried and life will go on. They charged him with theft, now they have to prove that he did steal something. I think that will prove difficult in this case if they don't know where the vehicle is!

why hasnt the fbi been brought in? Why hasnt the IRS done an audit? What happened to the cross check system? That guy is only hurting that poor city! Make him pay back the $$ so that the people of Rio Bravo can qualify for federal funds again !

He's a DPS officer, upstanding citizen?? With more than 3/4 million in properties?? Do property search with his name and his wife's, parent's names. There's your answer..where all the money went. Guess the truth will come out soon!

It’s a little thing called misappropriation of funds. Those of you unfamiliar with this is when you take money say it’s for one thing and then you turn around and spend it on something else or someone else.…the feds and the state don’t like this at all.

Rio Bravo is not able to apply for Federal or State Grants until all the money given to all previous administrations is accounted for and I guess this is just one of the many many outstanding things out there. I wonder why he and his family started owning a LOT of properties ever since he became mayor and on a teacher's salary come-on.

Why do you think this Juan Gabriel Gonzalez is a real bad dude? If he is so bad, how did he land such a high profile job with DPS?

DWI Is not the story, and if Texas or Laredo was so concerned about DWI's or DUI's then they should implement mandatory checkstops like they have in the northern sates to stop the drunks!

Are you saying a DWI is not a big deal? What's wrong with you man? I strongly doubt you would be saying the same thing if he was involved in an accident

Sounds fishy to me. I am sure there is more to the story and he's just the fall guy. Or someone was mad at him and found a way to get to him. He's a DPS officer, upstanding citizen. Guess the truth will come out soon! And so what if he had a DWI, everyone has one of those these days!
