The Laredo Independent School District hires a controversial figure for their Executive Director of Curriculum.
Linda Theret was in the middle of controversy a couple of years ago as the principal at McKinney High School. Her daughter was one of the members of “The Fab Five,” a group of cheerleaders that allegedly engaged in “grotesque behaviors” such as racy pictures on MySpace.
Theret resigned from her position amid accusations of providing the girls with preferential treatment.
Some are asking why the Laredo Independent School District hired Theret as the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction. LISD has released a statement saying they checked her background thoroughly.
The district considers Theret a curriculum expert, and says she brings a lot to the table, especially for secondary students in math and science.
Superintendent Dr. Marcus Nelson was not available for comment.

It is typical of LISD to hire people based more on what they could and MIGHT do than based on what is highly likely for them to do and what is less costly for them. Of course, also typical, was that they weren't available for comment >.>

We know this woman is probably capable of helping the LISD students (and thats a big probably), it is her past behavior that makes us all a little worried. In a district, not to mention city, full of corruption, we are all frankly tired of it.

I remember hearing about the "Fab Five" when I was in middle school. While I don't want to judge Mrs. Theret, I do want to point out that it's not a good idea to hire someone who let a group of cheerleaders(which included her daughter!) rule their school. I'm just afraid of what could happen to the already dysfunctional district.

The Last Director of Curriculum and Instruction was good for nothing and did not deserve his big fat salary. So it does not surprise me at all that they would hire another corrupt person in such an important position. Wake up LISD and hire people who acually earn their pay and help the students as they should.

Wow, what a bunch of immature idiots everyone at this blog have been. Have u seen the scores of our LISD students? Have u seen improvement? Mayb u should hold off on ur judging until u give a newcomer a chance and see increase in ur children's grades and scores. THen u can judge, but until then, I would keep my mouth shut. That's the problem with Laredo: No one can accept change and that's why we are where we're at. Everyone has a past that they have to live with so 1st look in the mirror!!

I'm not surprised the super doesn't address the media. He thinks his rap skills are what the kids will relate to. WAKE UP Nelson! You need to bring in Daddy Yankee and RBD which is what most of the kids relate to. I think the super is arrogant and instead of accepting the culture he came into he is trying to change them to accept rap. In light of the recend debate on bilingual education he should keep in mind that our kids need academic language not rhyming lyrics.

If that is all THAT PERSON'S criteria for a good representation for education, that person must not have any children in school or could care less. This is the type of people LISD likes. What is Laredo ISD thinking (OR NOT). What type of message are you giving to our kids and what type of examples are you setting for them. Why dont you go searching for all the bad examplary people and hire them. I just can't believe what kind of hiring skills LISD has. Maybe YOU ALL NEED A BACKGROUND CHECK AN A HEAD CHECK. Get our kids better people to set examples, not corrupt people. Once a bad apple always a bad apple. WE NEED NEW PEOPLE AT LISD. LAREDO WAKE UP AND VOTE FOR NEWER STAFF

The LISD administrators seems like they dont care about corruption of school administrators. Ethical and Professional values seem unimportant for the people they hire.. Maybe they can incluede Tranzas 101 in their corriculum. our kids are going to need that subject in their future lives.

LISD officials can chose Linda as the MADRINA of the LISD cheerleaders - she has the expertise and apparently knows how to give preferential treatment - her daughter can be the lead Prima Dona - LISD will never learn.

This is just what we would expect from LISD. A local educator would probably bring more "to the table" since he or she would understand the unique problems faced by border schools. Bringing in a prima donna will cause problems...more problems. LISD can ill afford that!
