After weeks of not addressing the media, the superintendent with the Laredo Independent School District, Dr. Marcus Nelson, granted an interview about several issues the district is facing:
"I really come from old school were people are supposed to do their job and Mrs. Castillon and her department are responsible to work with our media. I work very closely with her and I'm not dodging anything. And I'm not afraid to talk to the camera, I'm not afraid to talk. I just have a very focused job here in Laredo and it’s really about educating the children and that’s where I concentrate the majority of my time."
Dr. Nelson proceeded to discuss the hiring of Linda Theret, the controversial former principal at McKinney High School. Theret was at the heart of a scandal that involved high school cheerleaders posting provocative photos on the Internet.
Dr. Nelson says the district performed a thorough background check and he feels confident that Theret can bring a lot to the district.
