Probelm Solver: Resident upset over truck traffic ruining her property

By KGNS News

A woman in west Laredo says she is tired of having tractor-trailers knocking down her fence. She says the street where she lives is not a truck route.

The council member for that district visited the woman's home to look at the problem.

Yolanda Ramirez is upset about 18-wheelers going through her front yard just to make a turn to get to their warehouse. The problem is that corner of Santa Rita and Garden is not a designated truck route.

"It’s not a truck route and every time they do knock the fence down. I'm not home and its all hit and run. It’s just getting frustrating."

So frustrating that the truck drivers have knocked down her fence more than six times.

"And I have to repair it. Even though their insurance pay for it. It's not fair because two days later they'll knock it down again."

Meanwhile the council member for that district, Cindy Liendo-Espinoza, came out to assess the damage:

"There are signs that say don't come in through Santa Cleotilde, Main, Davis, however they are disobeying those signs."

Trucks are passing by at all hours through Yolanda’s yard, and the tracks are there to prove it.

Liendo says something needs to be done:

"I will also contact the where house and ask them to please let their drivers know what the easiest way to get there is, obviously the trucks don't fit through these streets."

Yolanda says that’s good, but maybe the city needs to put some type of barrier on the corner of her home.

"I will definitely look into that. But first we need to get some sidewalk here as well, so we can start with that as soon as possible."

Liendo says if there is a need for a barrier, they will place it there.
