Despite fundraising efforts throughout the year for the animal shelter, it still seems to always be running on empty.
And today the shelter has hit rock bottom just days before Christmas.
At least twelve hundred dollars, several computers and three dogs are now missing after the Laredo animal shelter is broken into over night.
Shelter representatives say the thieves took computers, I-pods, and other personal items from the offices and a scale used to weigh the animals that costs about $500.
Over a thousand dollars in donations and fees were also stolen.
Three dogs including a white pit bull puppy were also taken.
The shelter manager hopes those who may have taken the puppy will find it in their heart to return her.
Lori Brizius, Laredo Animal Protective Society
“Being this close to Christmas it's pretty bad that you’re doing what you’re doing to a non profit organization but also this puppy needs special care by us, not someone in the general public.”
The puppy is a white pit bull and is about three months old.
She is missing some fur on her tail and has a neurological problem that requires veterinary supervision.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

I hope the Police Dpt Investigates de Animal Shelter personnel from top to bottom, I think it was an inside job. Mrs Director.. where were you?? seeing those animals and cages all dirty and animals screaming helpless without food, it was a matter of time due to the missmanagement I have seen.

Why do gangster and thugs prefer pitbulls?

This has to be an inside job. I don't trust the shelter people

How sad. And so close to Christmas too. Who ever did this, either an insider or outsider, does not have a heart. I hope their caught soon.

The leadership at this place seems questionable. What were $1,200 dollars doing at the office; good fiscal management would have them deposit daily and certainly at end of week. I would encourage the board of directors to look into the fiscal policy/procedure, its implementation, average daily deposits, etc. I've seen this before, and in circumstances where there is unusual cash on hand and then a theft, it is most likely an inside job. Good luck animal shelter supporters.

The security of this building is the responsability of the director, the same woman that was asking for donations on the radio few weeks back. Please dont ask for donations when the there are serious security issues in the Animal Shelter. and please dont give dogs to your friends free of charge.

Why is the animal shelter so concerned for the pit bull and no the other dogs?? The dangerous nature of this puppy seems more important than the burglary. When my residence was attacked by a pit bull, it was realesed by the animal shelter next day, No observation period for rabies even when it killed two of my animals it was realesed free of charge and no documentation left in the Animal Shelter.

The reason for the "pitbull" concern, if you read the article AGAIN, is she is an ILL 3 months old PUPPY (a baby!) that requires veterinary supervision! It just so happens she is a pitbull breed. I'm sure any other dog breed would have gotten the same recognition! Obviously, the thiefs were not aware of her illnes, and who knows what they will do with her once they find out this poor little animal needs special care. I seriously doubt they will use the stolen money for her health care!

It frustrates the hell out of me of how bad the "stigma" and "stereotype" is for these beautiful animals! I've raised pitbulls and have been exposed to them all my life, and have never had problems with any of my animals!

come on. we all have said that line when we post up signs when our dogs are missing " missing dog. needs medication". To me, it seems like an inside job. Have you read the articles on MSN and Yahoo. Alot of non-profit organizations are being robbed by the very ones that work there.

Welcome to the recession! National news says the crime rates are down. If you take a criminal justice course you will notice that cities FABRICATE the rates to make their cities/towns look better and attract businesses/residents. As for the pitbull thing, watch The Dog Whisperer.

The puppy with neurological problems should have been euthanized. While this seems harsh, the money spent on one dog could be used to support several other animals in the shelter.

Maybe your frustration will go away when your dog kills another human being due to your stupidity.
