UISD will close all schools tomorrow, Friday 04, Feb. 2011.
***LISD, Catholic schools, TAMIU and LCC are scheduled to have classes tomorrow (04 Feb 2011), but will monitor the situation.
Webb Consolidated Independent School District has released students early today, Thursday 03, Feb. 2011. They have also cancelled classes Friday 04, Feb. 2011.
Zapata ISD has no classes tomorrow, Friday 04, Feb. 2011, due to a pre-scheduled in-service day.
Jim Hogg County ISD released children early from school between 1:00-1:30 PM today and has cancelled classes tomorrow Friday 04, Feb. 2011.
La Salle ISD, as of today, Thursday 03, Feb. 2011, are having classes today and are scheduled to have classes tomorrow. However, if they cancel classes tomorrow, they will notify parents.

****LISD ANNOUNCED AT 1:15 PM THURSDAY FEB. 03, 2011 CLASSES WILL START 2 HOURS LATER THAN SCHEDULED. I.E. IF CLASSES NORMALLY START AT 8 AM, THEY WILL BEGIN AT 10 AM.
***ALSO, WEBB COUNTY JJAEP HAS CANCELLED CLASSES FOR FRIDAY, 04 FEB. 2011.

It has nothing to do with the fact of snow - it has to do with the driving conditions. Those that understand know that it can be VERY TREACHEROUS escpecially for people who are NOT used to driving in slippery conditions. There is black ice that can cause spinouts because you do not SEE it. So if we do get any type of precipitaion-PLease be careful if you are on the road DRIVE VERY S:OWLY and WATCH out for the OTHER GUY

What makes no sense is that LISD schools that remain open are going to loose A.D.A. MONEY plus what they spend to open and heat the schools because many parents have to work and cannot bring them 2 hours later...so, go stay at "'buela's" and forget school because i have to go to work NOW, not at 10...isn't the district having a budget crisis already?

This is not forward thinking by LISD. We have many personel who have students at UISD and who in all probability have a few "sick" days to take. So now we pay teachers, substitutes and heating for a fraction of the students who go to school. It just doesn't add up. If school administrators would only have the gumption to speak up (without reprisals) we wouldn't have an issue.

1.Stupid to open 2 hours later. 2. AEP should have given a heads up to everyone at least a few hours before - WE would have been prepared. It was total CHAOS, trying to get thru traffic. Big big THUMBS UP, and THANK YOU to PD officers directing traffic in this mess. You ALL rock!

ya and what about schools with no heaters like j c martin my kids said that the school was very cool how could you keep students there with no heat that is not rigth . it is mean and what if they get sick just because they dont want tho lose money

What do the people at LISD think that parents don't work and can just get up and leave their jobs to take kids to school 2 hours late! I am not sending my child and they BETTER NOT MAKE IT AN UNEXCUSED ABSENCE!!!!!!! If they are going to open, OPEN at regular time if not just CLOSE!

Either open or close but what is this of opening at 2 hours late THIS IS RIDICULOUS!! People with jobs don't have the luxury of leaving when they please because the school decides to open late!!!!!

Hellooo...I hope the leaders from Lisd take note before the end of the night and choose to close and save some money...especially since they have not done a good job of it so far and people's jobs are already at risk due to poor budget decision making. I feel sorry for LISD employees.

Yes its a little snow and its cold. Most people are used to it, but take one thing into consideration.... the people of laredo are NOT used it... I picked up my kids after school and see all these kids walking home... LISD board and main office employees should put on a light sweater and walk around the plasita just once or twice to see if they enjoy the weather... not all kids get a ride home!

I heard there were more than 3000 absences at LISD on wednesday, no idea for today, cant even imagine how many more on friday... how much is this going to cost them? The district looses money for every time a student is absent... I guess they want to seem like they are really doing their job by not cancelling classes. UISD busses the majority of thier kids to school and they are cancelling... LISD has many walkers and they staying open... makes no sense...

All I know is that ih35 is closed right now due to too many acccidents...imagine in the morning when bus students are being picked up and LISD are risking the students lives. It will be their responsibilty if the driver wrecks because of the weather conditions.

If LISD bozos cancel school they can recover the ADA money from the state on the make-up weather day later. They will have better attendance on that day too therefore recover more attendance money instead of paying to heat empty buildings and pay teachers, substitues, paraprofessionals and administrators.

It will be your conscience if someone has an accident on the way to work or school. Just because you're waiting till 10 to start class doesn't mean school buses or staff don't have to get on the road earlier to get there. Also, some staff live in Hebronville, Zapata and surrounding areas which means they have to get on the road early...prepare for subs or dealing with the accident reports...better safe than sorry...CANCEL

I for one will be ticked off if I have to go to work as an administrator tomorrow, but before I do, I turn to pro 8 and hear those stupid words, "LISD IS CANCELING SCHOOL!". I could have stayed out later and had a blast at El Poso! Lol So u better not cancel school. LISD Plus better for me, I wont have to pretend like I'm doing something at work. There will be no students to even prentend to be busy earning my paycheck! Lol. Jk.

from elisd.org -- Due to the hazardous road conditions, Laredo Independent School District has cancelled classes for Friday, February 4, 2011. All LISD campuses and departments, including the LISD Tax Office, will be closed all day on Friday, Feb. 4. LISD will resume its regular scheduled on Monday, Feb. 7, 2011.

Even if you drive slow on an icy road will cause the car to get out of control! Safety for our children and for the people who have to get there and work. It's better to be safe than sorry. They'll make it up on the 18th and attendance won't be as bad. Hopefully. I really don't mind at all working that day.

Just put it this way LAREDO is not prepared for this kind of weather. Mayor needs to prepare staff for this kind of weather so there wont be a next time. (to many accidents)
