Hundreds of people lined up early this morning to take part in an annual event in west Laredo.
Santa took time to drop off gifts to children for this year's "Christmas en el Barrio."
Besides toys, at least 2-hundred families received cookies and bags of groceries for Christmas.
Christmas en el Barrio began 12 years ago when a local family decided to take the time to give to others.
Javier Curiel - Organizer
“We were financially struggling and my dad went to ask for assistance and they couldn’t give him assistance because he owned a house. The following year when he got better, he said one of these days I’m going to do this and not discriminate. Who ever shows up to my house is going to get a toy.”
The Curiel family says the Laredo community was very generous with donations this year and they are sincerely grateful.

Kudos to the Curiel family for their exemplary contribution to their community. May our Heavenly Father grant them the strength to continue on this commendable journey and to the rest of us, the mind to understand, appreciate, and—hopefully—emulate what the Curiel family is doing.

I grew up about a block from the Curieles and I want to congratulate them for their efforts. Their dad was a very humble man and was gifted musically as well as an organizer. Although he is gone, his family took over where he left off. Again thanks for a job well done.
