The death of Michael Jackson had to be the biggest story of the year. Several generations saw him grow up in the lime light. MJ "King of Pop" will be missed around the world. :(

The death of Michael Jackson is definitely the defining national story of the year. It was the end of a legacy and, tragically, the end of what was a very sad life for someone who was so richly talented.

Mr . J will be missed , but the ultimate, tragic, story locally is the death of katerine cardenas. I only hope she is being looked after by gods best angels and that the one responsible for her absense, get what it deserves.

The most tragic story locally, is the death of Katerine Cardenas. This story really hit me hard and can never imagine anyone that I know that has children to go through such a horrible thing. May she rest in peace and I know she's in a better place. I hope that disturbing person pays for what he did to this innocent little person

I'm sick of hearing about Michael Jackson. People forget that Farrah Faucet passed the same day as well. And she was a native South Texan. Yes Micheal Jackson did alot for music but come on, enough is enough! We lost alot of good talent in 2009. He wasn't the only one who passed way, and I bet that I'm not the only one tired of hearing about him.

Music does not run my life, A tragic preventable homicide and negligence of school authorities was the most important news of the year, We discovered how a death could be prevented and how our local system fails.

Don't be an MJ hater. This is a blog to share what each of us think "in our own opinion" what was the biggest news story in 2009. And by obvious reasons, Michael Jackson is one of the many that comes to mind for many people. Others are remembering baby Katherine. You thought of Farrah Faucet. And as for your comment about losing many more talents in 2009. Since you seem to remember them, care to share with us who they are??? The only one that got the most publicity is our late "King of Pop".

For me, worldwide would be the death of Michael Jackson, or better known as our "King of Pop". And locally, unfortunately I remember the horrifying story about the death of baby Katherine. Both very sad tragedies. :-(

Well just a few, Ed McMann, Patrick Swayze, Bea Author, John Huges, Ted Kenedy, Natasha Richards, Britney Murphy. The list goes on. MJ had good music way back when but recent music was total garbage. Alot of the people named has done more for the average person than MJ ever thought of doing. Yes he was a great artist but he was not GOD.

A big story in 2009 was the Democrats' plan to reform health care, only to be met with derision from Republicans. Angry conservative mobs went so far as to call Obama a Nazi, and Rep. Joe Wilson even shouted "liar" during a prime time televised presidential address. The movement grew with the so-called "Tea Parties." Public discourse took a nasty turn and misleading GOP talking points, such as death panels, were taken seriously by many.

JESUS Q, the biggest story should be BUSH WAS RIGHT. Research the reaction in the middle east to the war in Iraq. The political reform in Iran is result of Iranians watching free and Democratic voting in this fledgling democracy. If BUSH was so wrong, why is Obama increasing the number of troops in Afghanistan? Thankfully the GOP defeated Hussein's gulogs and ended the murder and torture of thousands of Iraqis. If the Demoncrats had been in power so would Saddam Hussein and his dictatorship.

There is no doubt that Michael Jackson was one of a kind, but his death out shadowed that of Farah Facett she was also a great Icon and a loss that was so sad. also Patrick Swayze and Britney Murphy all very talented people But the most painful one of all was on the same day Actress Brittney Murphy passed on the 20th of Dec. My Dad Francisco Romanos Jr. also lost his battle with brain cancer, It was something we knew was going to happen but still is so shocking to me I am not able to aaccept it.

The firing of Texas Tech head football coach MIKE LEACH is by all means the biggest story of this year! He was accused by wide receiver Adam James son of Craig James, and was not given a fair trial! Instead the TTU administration should be fired! Texas Tech football will never be the same. LONG LIVE OUR CAPTAIN! TEAM LEACH! WRECK 'EM TECH!

Bush was wrong. We should have gone after bin-ladan in afghanistan after 911. He was the real enemy. Reaction of the middle east is they hate us more than ever by us invading Iraq. remember promstheass, Bush senior (GOP) had hussain but let him go. don't blame the democrats. Also 1 millon iraqis & more then 4000 troops dead, was it worth it for one ahole. I wont mention the multi-billons of dollers we've spent there & affecting us back home.
