City looking to fix downtown parking dilemma

By KGNS News

Council also got an update from the Horizon Group on the downtown parking facility that is to be built.

The Horizon Group owns several outlet malls throughout the US, and purchased El Portal mall five years ago.

Since making that purchase, the firm has wanted to redevelop the property; part of their plan includes 342,000 square feet of retail and 2,000 parking spaces.

Estimating to cost about $100-million for the mall development and another $21-million for the parking facility:

"It’s a big number for parking, now the parking spaces will be available for the entire River Vega development but right now we'll need approximately 2,000 spaces when the mall opens."

Council is hoping once the facility is built it will solve the downtown-parking dilemma, especially at San Agustin Plaza.
