A local man is now facing hard time, after pleading guilty on murder charges stemming from a fatal car accident.
Eighteen-year old Ediberto Salcedo was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty of aggravated robbery, aggravated assault and murder. This after he stole a car from a local dealership back on May 16th of 2008.
He led Laredo police on a car chase, which ended when he crashed into a van. Inside the van was four-month-old Samuel Hernandez.
The baby boy later died from blunt force injuries to his head... After being ejected from a car seat and thrown out of the vehicle.
Rick Lopez represented the district attorney's office in this case:
"The infant was not belted in and that’s something we see in our community a lot of times we see kids not belted in or not strapped in and out of maybe a mother's love for her child she may want him close and it was a totally unexpected event to this family but none the less dealt to with the tragedy."
A four-year-old child, who was traveling inside the van, only suffered minor injuries.
The parents of the baby have been left with only three pictures of their baby who was killed in that accident.

It has nothing to do with hate or lack of compassion for the families loss, but as parents we must learn to take some responsibility for situations like this, yes the parents did not know this fool was on the streets, but it is up to us to ensure the safety of our children and take the appropriate measures to ensure their safety, because you never know when there are going to be idiot drivers like that boy out their.

Wow, I cannot believe how shallow and cold you people are. This a human being. Have some compassion for that child and his family. With people like you all there's no wonder there is hate and crime.

Prometheus, I agree, but! You have to look at it from the point of view of the poor. Most Laredoans use trucks to not spend the extra money on shipping. Why pay when you can move the stuff yourself? This creates the problem of lack of extended cab space. And therefore little room for the "kids". Instead of buying another car, they "save" money by using the truck. True it wastes more fuel, but heck if its the only vehicle you own you will use it to max efficiency.

Why is it when I have called the polce many times about children in the bed of pick ups travelling 359 nothing gets done? I have seen Sheriif's vehicles behind pick-ups with toddlers being restrained by siblings in the bed of pick ups. Wait until there is an accident and several children are dead. I hope then they arrest and sentence cops, not the poor person that collides with such a truck. As you have seen, parents in Laredo are not held accountable for their childrens' well being.

True,True I have seen it many times. Children not properly restrained jumping up and down in the moving car like they were at a playground and then you see a police car stop right next to this car and do nothing about it.
