City Council suggests more funding needed for Fire Dept. Headquarters

By KGNS News

City Council discussed the status of a new headquarters for the Laredo Fire Department at Tuesday’s meeting.

The project has been in the works since 1997, but City Council says they haven't been able to find the necessary funding.

The new headquarters is estimated to be worth about $10.1 million.

The council said more funds were needed for the project, and said the chief should make adjustments to the layout and come back at a later meeting.

How arrogant of the fire dept! They don't need a new station with more office space that includes a library and state of the art gym with a $10 mil price tag at the expense of the taxpayers. Firefighters can afford gym memberships and half of them don't even need to read that much to do their job. Why don't they take the proceeds of their firefest pachangas instead to beef up manpower so they can hire more people beyond their nepotist hiring methods. Que sangrones

Before I make a comment on this, I would like to know what is wrong with the headquaters they are using now? And why do they need a library and gym? If they want to read they can go to the free public library. and a gym? Why dont they pay for their own membership at a gym. Most of the firefighters and police are overweight anyway. The equipment would just collect dust if you ask me and would be a waste of money.

Their job and duty is to protect the citizens of Laredo, just like a soldier protects the U.S., They get paid a lot more than a soldier, We pay for a firefighter service. and we expect that service to be performed. First they need to have some behavioral lessons I am sick of seeing dirtbags in the news.
