Mexican legislators propose nation-wide ban on narco corridos

By KGNS News

An entire genre of music may soon be banned in Mexico.
A new proposal by Mexico’s ruling party could result in musicians being sent to prison for performing "narco corridos" or drug ballads that allegedly glorify drug trafficking.
The proposed legislation, which made it's way to the Mexican congress on Wednesday, would mean prison sentences of up to three years for those performing or producing the ballads.
It’s unclear when the proposed legislation would be voted on.
Mexican band "Los Tigres del Norte" recently cancelled a planned appearance at an awards ceremony at a government-owned auditorium after organizers allegedly asked them not to perform their new drug ballad "La Granja".
