City Council: Beer run girls not doing anything illegal

Calls continue to come in to the Pro 8 Newsroom regarding scantily clad women dancing in front of local beer runs.
The actions of the women and beer run management have become a cause of concern for many members of the community.
City Council discussed the issue and decided they would need further investigation before taking action, but Councilman Michael Landeck says he is going to meet with management from the beer runs and a pastor from a local church who has complained about their actions, in the hopes of finding a solution to the issue.
The Council says unless the women are exposing themselves, they are not breaking the law and cannot be legally disciplined.

Now, if there is a prostitution ring going on, then that is a different story and legal action should be done. That's what happen with the car wash on santa maria a while back. They were handing out "free goodies" while they waited for their car to be washed...got busted...and now they are shut down.

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the guy in the white durango have kids in the back seat?? What the hell? This should not be done during the daytime, they need to do this at night. There are schools around this area and kids do not need to see these things. Plus this is causing a distraction for drivers on the road, thus making this a dangerous situation especially since HWY 83 gets jam packed in the afternoon.

look its their perogotive if they want to shake it for dollar bills - but we have establishments for that do it there - not were kids can see you - I can attest to one time I was driving by the beer run in south laredo (the one with the Stripper Pole) and one girl was gyrating up and down the pole in a dress - all her underwear was showing - Come on its broad daylight and children are everywhere- why is this not considered a lewd act -- maybe I will open up a beer run and have studs in speedo's - see how that goes???

If the church groups want to complain about city issues, they should pony up and pay taxes just like the rest of us. I don't approve of young ladies showing their stuff out to clients, however, they do have a job. Most Pastors don't work.

This is really a disgrace to Laredo. I have called LPD in reference to this several months ago on Hwy83 the drive thru right in front of Judges Rangel/Veliz courtroom was this girl at 5:30 p.m. dancing on a pole with only a thong and a tiny little strap on her chest. I was surprised they did not do anything. Let's wait to vote again so we can vote the council men out.

For all you who complain about this. Do you have a solution? Can you offer those girls a job right now and pay them what they are earning doing this? If you do then this is a no brainer, just offer/give them an opportunity to work for you. Obviously they are willng to work so hire them. They, as they spend the earned money, are contributing to Laredo's economy. Instead of spitting poison you should contribute to really making Laredo a better place by hiring these unskilled ladies.

I certainly agree w/Upset Parent. You don't need specialized skills for dishwashing,taking orders, sweeping, etc..And for Question, about having a solution to this..there are plenty of programs out there to assist them with job training and going back to school if they wish to do so. The Workforce Center is the first one that comes to mind, they have GED, Job Skill Training, a whole lot to offer. I just think that they don't want to work hard for it like everyone else. Don't say that there are no programs out there because there are. It takes time to make applications and go through classes something that obviously they don't want to do. Yes, I agree they contribute to Laredo's economy but do they pay their taxes? Are they paying SS, FICA, and all of those employment taxes that are deducted from the paychecks? It would be interesting to find that they don't. If they don't get these deducted, they technically don't contribute much, in my opinion.

It is upsetting and degrading to our community that NOTHING CAN BE DONEE about these girls' public indecency. What message are we giving to our community about our self-respect, and how can we raise moral children when our own representatives are not doing anything about the issue? New rules/regulations need to be added to the ordinances and permits. SOMETHING CAN BE DONE if only Laredo would unite. This is OUR city. Those of s who work for a better tomorrow, educating our children and improving our community. What is going on through the mind's of these girls? About their self worth? Don't they know that you can receive positive attention by other means? But then I come to the realization that they do not know better. It just goes to show how they have been raised and where they come from and all that they are good for. Jules don't bury your head in the sand. Spending money IS contributing to the economy. Keep in mind than many individuals don't pay their fair share of taxes (FICA or otherwise) if they are paid contract labor-like gardeners and maids. Sure there are programs but they won't pay the bills while people are enrolled in them. It's so easy to fix someone else’s problems by sitting pretentiously high and mighty waving your little wand as if directing an orchestra in a concerto pretending to solve these girls problems. Ok let’s pretend that, they do go through one of the “plenty of programs out there that assist them with job training and/or go back to school.” The Workforce Center with their GED, Job Skill Training, won’t get them much more than they already earn. Waiting tables pays significantly less than minimum and in Laredo tips are pitiful at best but then you know this as you depart restaurants leaving only a few coins. I personally dont pass by that drive through often, and when I have to I try to take another route. It does look wrong but it is not illegal. If it were my daughter I would personally drag her out of there by her hair, but then again I would hope that in the future I would be able to help her out financially so she wouldnt have to do that. But if these girls have no other choice, well who are we to judge. Times are tough now and when worse comes to worse you do what you have to do to pay your bills. Just cover up a bit more girls, or keep it inside the drive through, dont flaunt it all in the streets.
