Memorial unveiled for fallen Laredo police officers

By KGNS News

Law enforcement ‘Police Week’ kicked off this morning with a special ceremony for officers killed in the line of duty.
The newest edition to the Pro 8 News team, Brenda Medina, spoke with relatives.
"I just never had the opportunity to meet him,” says Gene Luna, grandson of a fallen Laredo Police officer.
Tears rolled down relatives faces as the Laredo Police Department remembered their sons, dads, grandfathers, nephews and brothers.
Patricia Albidrez and her sister were only 4 and 2-years-old when their father, Officer Pablo Albidrez Jr's life was cut short, at the young age of 27.
"I will always see him as a hero and I'm very proud of him.”
Her father was shot and killed more than 30 years ago as he assisted during a narcotics call.
Retired Sergeant, Candelario Viera, was there when the unfortunate incident happened.
"Flash backs keep coming back to me, I'll never forget him."
The statue of an officer bent on one knee was unveiled at the ceremony, one by one families and comrades laid a carnation next to it as they paid their respects.
The last officer killed while on the job from the Laredo Police Department, was officer Victor Pablo Serna.
That happened on September 11th of 1984.
