Martin High to take a "plan of action" in dealing with latest problems

By KGNS News

After weeks of frustration, parents and staff at Martin High School speak directly to the board, and administrators now plan to take action.

An email circulating notes the plan of action being taken at Martin High School; it stresses concerns the staff has from security officers not present in the hallways to teachers being assaulted.

Parents and teachers voiced their concerns at the LISD board meeting this evening.

They reiterate that there is too much bullying going on at school, but yet administrators do not take the appropriate action to pull out the dozens of kids causing disruption at the school.

In the last couple of days posted on YouTube, we've seen a couple of trash can fires happening at the school along with fights.

The school district tells me they are not taking the situation lightly and are asking teachers to have trust in this new plan of action.

America as a whole would be better off if we stayed with good old school but wippings at scholl and at the home. CPS failure! Kids need disipline like hard spankings. Remember only two things motivate humans, Pleasure and pain.

With 2 kids in elementary, I am scared of of how bad high school is going to be in a few years. These kids are out of control - there are no repercussions for their crimes, so they do whatever they want. Discipline in the schools is a thing of the past. ALL schools need some discipline. What is going to become of these kids? Criminals in the making, that's what they are. Bring back the SRO's - real police officers. Kids fighting? Taze the little cretins. That will get their attention real quick.

Begin with the teenage moms who had these kids at 15yrs and now their product is out of control. Most come from an abusive home with no parental supervision or role models. IT is NOT the responsibility of teachers and administrators to babysit students or to teach family values.

The deal is. Both districts think of our children as cattle "the more the merryer".As far as parents doing something at home,2 things.1 some parents are affraid of the kids beating them up and some do.2 If we try old-school diseplin like"bring me a switch or the belt" like they did us when ever we got out of line C.P.S gets involved real quick. I got in trouble once and had to get a switch and mama tought me the meanning of repect. Let me tell you one thing I never got in trouble again much less for disrespecting a teacher.Im pretty sure most of you remember something simmilar, and we all turned out ok right?

Apparently everyone has made valid points. The one I agree with is in metting out punishments. Good behavior must be rewarded ... Schools should merit the just. Some of these administrators attempt to save the world. They have a distorted view of reality if they choose not to punish those who violate the policies. One administrator tells his faculty , "We've got to do what's right for kids." It is sad to note that he is the most lenient and ineffective instructional leader because he does not met out any punishment. Generally, teachers at the two high schools in one district feel that he chooses not to provide the support that his position calls for. These schools need a "SKIRT" ... gone are the days of the late Anita P. Ochoa, Cecilia M. Moreno, Esther Boubel, Martha Rubio, and Minerva Ramirez.

Its more than just ADA said on Monday, May 17 at 7:37 AM

I believe it cranks up to about $6K/kid/year so it's not really that much but one must be cognizant of Compulsory Education Laws. These laws are the reason districts must put up with them.

ADA (AVERAGE DAILY ATTENDANCE)is the only reason these bad apples remain in school. It is time to consider what we will lose if this continues.

FYI The juvenile that was interviewed was on Roach II pills. That juvenile was just brought back from expulsion at JJAEP. Not including the long record of serious crimes on his resume. I know that individual very well. He is an example of how things are going at Martin High School. There is no leadership in LISD with kahones or the discernment to be able to point out the trouble makers and expel them for good. This school reminds me of the school from the movie "Lean On Me". I am personally writing a letter to TEA about this great problem. This does not include all the kids that are in attendance at Martin that are not even citizens of this country.

Now , go outside and go and play with your jumping rope . One more thing , why give free lunches/breakfast ? You can buy breakfast tacos for $ 1.99 at the Circle K . This free lunch things is another liberal freebie that causes us to pay higher taxes , but , you would need to ask your mommy about that since she pays taxes . Compa ,tell you mommy to take you past the IH-35 checkpoint and see how the other cities run their schools . Hijole !!!!!!!

Can someone take Charge??? said on Saturday, May 15 at 12:17 AM

I move to Laredo a few years ago. After interacting with many students, I was asked if I saw the difference between LISD and UISD kids? In my eyes, they are all the same...they are students. Why do we have problems that can't seem to be fixed? I truly believe that parents aren't engaged with their kids at all. I guess some parents don't care about their kids future. What happened to being the example for our kids? Don't we want a better future for them? Now, if a students wishes to act up and misbehave, then deal with them swiftly, and squash the problem. Every campus I went to, I kept hearing teachers complain about students making a mockery of the discipline that the schools supposedly enforce. Students alike would brag of such things. You know, a while back, I was given some great advice...You can't polish a ROCK, no matter how hard you try. TEACHERS, I feel your pain. ADMINISTRATORS, get rid of the "problem childs", and if you need a SPINE to do your job, let me know.

Money will hurt the parents and will make them and the students think twice . The way you recoup any lost money from the student being disruptive you make them pay a penalty .

Hey Power Freaks! Boards and your followers.... Super Nelson and his gang.... It is time to take a good look at consequences you give students (BAD BOYS & GIRLS) they are in the lead. The horse race continues. No matter how many times teachers are blamed for not being able to discipline students (parenting skills that should be taught at home) You take a good look at the real picture!!! consequences students get for being 100% bad (nada) are a slap in the face. They continue to laugh at teachers because administrators and administration are afraid of the gang movement. If you touch their kids, you may be egg shelled or ??? Start supporting ur own (teachers) defend them and punish the students who should be kicked out of school if they don't want to learn. Bring in the professionals (Laredo Police Department) GET RID OF EXTRA Payroll LISD Police. They are just ur PUPPETS!!!! Don't enforce just are pulled by your strings.

Apparently, all schools have problems and it's going to take a while to correct what's been escalateing.Administrators are more focused on AYP, daily attendance,TAKS scores and other statistics. This means they are not visible on the campus and students have no one to view as an authority figure. There are campus securities, but kids laugh them off as no threat. On my campus, there are about 25 to 30 kids roaming the halls yelling obscenities at each other or at teachers.Where are the administrators and securities? We have campus police, but it's like having the Keystone Cops protecting the school.Totally ineffective. Some of these kids should not be in school, they gang affiliated, drugged up,emotionally disturbed and somewhat psychotic. What normal parent wants their children attending a school where students yell obscenities or make physical threats at teachers. The community should get involved and be concerned, the good kids are at risk with all these "low lifes" or psychos running loose.

Whatfair you made two comments and both missed. On the first you suggest to make them white shirts and ties. You are laughable too bad this is serious. You obviously are totally out of tune with what’s going on. LISD has a student dress code implemented by now gone Severita Sanchez and soon to be gone Elsa Arce both former UISD administrators. What was not counted on was the no consequences (right now it is in school suspension (ISS). The enforcement of this dress code has adds to the paper burden on teachers who now police student dress and their writing of mountains of paper referrals on students. To me I prefer my student in my classroom no matter what short of distractive dress. Students get shortchanged on instructional time sitting in ISS doing nothing instead of my class. Personally, because of my in class philosophy, I don’t write referrals for kids wearing jeans (this code is mandatory but ludicrous The second statement of hitting them in the pocket book is off the mark.

I'm tired of paying taxes and our kids getting a subpar education . Mr Nelson , hit them where it hurts them , in the pocketbook .

Nixon also has a big problem. Teachers and administrators have no control. I was there during noon the other and students were rude. They thought I didn't understand Spanish and shocked when I told them I spoke Spanish and understood all the bad remarks they were making. They didn't speak English. Surprised? Take back control. You all run the school, they do not control you. I felt very intimidated by these guys. Can you imagine how our "good" students feel. It's time to take action at both schools.

Make it mandatory to wear a white shirt with a tie and clean pants . Two , if you're late for class you're out and if you miss school and don't have a valid excuse you're out . Teacher can and will kick you out and you don't come back , PERIOD . Now , if parents want to bring their kids back , now you need to pay a $ 1000.00 bond . Some one mentioned about parents being friends to their kids , that's so true . We need to be parents and not BFFs . Now the last thing , ID all trouble makers now and next year make them put a bond and the first incident , kick them out for good . Life is tough ,but it's tougher when you're stupid . Have a nice day . Oh yeah , Nixon how about winning some football games , geez .

Our children are not children anymore. They forget about having a childhood. Our chldren are playing at being adults but are not paying for the consequences; teenage pregnancy, drugs and fighting in school. If they want to act like adults then lets treat them like some. Let's get tougher with better security in our schools and a REAL no tolerance policy. Let's see if then we can correct this problem before these CHILDREN are active members of society.

Ok gamer so your solution is to have schools behave like turds too by "kicking the#$% out of them? You don't really offer a vialble and effective solution. You point out school and parental flaws, but thats all you did. As far as "all" the schools being that way, I disagree. Just take a look at the (fine arts, health, engineering business and early college) magnet schools and you will see otherwise. I will agree on a well made point though-it is not a teacher's job to teach kids how to behave themselves. Unfortunatly that form of education is needed so it is incumbent on educators to do it. Ni modo que le hacemos.

Here's a plan of action, how about getting these lost causes out of school, kicking the **** out of them (if they can dish it out they can certainly take it as well), fining the parents who are to lazy to control their child because they are either too busy trying to be their friends rather than their parents, STOP blaming the teacher because as much as I dislike High School teachers, it is not their job to teach our kids how to behave themselves and how about having some type of security who can actually do something when these things happen instead of them just standing by twiddling their fingers and enjoying the show. All the high schools here in laredo are bad in one way or another (and don't hit me with this school spirit **** that, "no it's not true so and so school isn't like that" BS they all are. Maybe just maybe, these kids would actually care about school if their parents would do a better job of being mom or dad, but sadly that will never happen here.
