A Laredo Police Department officer finds himself on the opposite side of the law after allegedly damaging a home and assaulting a resident there in a case of alleged domestic violence. 26-year-old Santiago Martinez III was arrested at around 3:30 a.m. after police received a 911 call of a person banging on the door of a home in the 2900 block of Burnet Drive. When officers arrived, they detained Martinez and later found damage on the front and back doors of the house, as well as a victim whom he allegedly assaulted with bruises on one arm. Martinez has been charged with criminal mischief and assault. The outcome of his employment status with LPD is still pending. Martinez has been employed with the department since August of 2008.
