Adventurous kids arrested at old Mercy hospital

The old Mercy Hospital building is sometimes a destination for people feeling adventurous and, for a few people, the adventure ended with a ride in a police car.
A total of nine people were taken into custody at the old Mercy Hospital yesterday evening, the youngest, only 11 years old.
Police say a security guard called for help. When police arrived, they found three kids outside and six people inside the chapel of the vacated hospital.
Two people were taken to jail for trespassing including 18-year-old Jose Alberto Morales and 18-year-old Javier Escobar.
Both were booked on a $1,000 bond.

The city is responsible to condemn any building that is a hazard for the public. Seems like the Zoning Dpt are very busy closing maquinitas compiting against the Juan Narvaez Maquinitas.

The old hospital is PRIVATELY owned.. not PUBLIC so the city is NOT responsible. Carranco eh? I guess this person is related to the accountant? If so he has an office near the Veterans Affairs building, perhaps a nice little protest outside his office may help.

Mr. Gutierrez help. We need you in this one to make an issue of this structure and exonarate the kids. The city provides a dangerous structure to our young Laredoan kids instead of activities center for our young generations. I dont see any recreational center for young kids in this Area.

These men that work in this Department are the same men that were sent by Mr. juan Narvaez to remove the homeless people, This is an example how these departments are not worth the taxes we paid. They administrators of this "zoning" Department need to be removed, fired and not to give them another job with the city of Laredo.

The city of Laredo is to blame, no doubt about it, They are guilty for providing a hazardous environment to our youg kids, This is another example of the inefficiency of the zoning department and the lack of attention to our young generations by the city government that are sent to jail instead of providing them with first worls instalations the ones we deserve.

NoName - there were 9 arrested - 2 adults & 7 juveniles, the youngest one is 11. The building is an eyesore and a hazard to the neighborhood. I think the reason NOTHING is done by Zoning & the Health Depart is that it is owned by Chendo Carranco -- who has been trying to get the County or City to buy it - no doubt at an outrageous profit for him.

There are about 15 videos on youtube showing kids going to Mercy an running around with cameras in search of ghost or other strange things. What the city should do is go in an clean it up make sure to remove everything and then open it up as haunted building it would make a great tourist attraction, everyone knows laredo needs help, an have a historical building that serves a purpose....IF NOT DESTROY THE BUILDING and make it into a parking lot!!! Apartment complex! wait turn it into a WALMART!!

Leave those kids alone. Do not prosecute. That building is a lure for these misguided youngsters.If anyone is to be taken to court it should be the owner of that eyesore,nuisance of a building.

Why is this building still in existence??? It's of no use to the public and if nobody has attempted to remodel this building by now, it's not going to happen. Easiest way to avoid situations like this...demolish this building once and for all!

This building is contaminated, no doubt about it and it needs to be considered a dangerous structure. The Health Department must to do something about it, even if they have to step on the shoes of their friends in city hall. This building is a danger to the general public.

That building has beed there abandoned for 10 years, No wonder kids go there. The fault is with the city zoning department who must to address the problem with this building that encourage "adventurous" kids. It is a sour eye to the city and a nest for bats (rabies). It needs to be demolished as soon as possible.

My question is why were only 2 out of 9 arrested? The old Mercy Chapel has long been used for satanic rituals as per news reports in the past and this report specifically states that six people were in the Chapel when police arrived. To answer my own question and the one above, probably because police used their discretion to release those who were there "only" out of curiosity and not into "criminal mischief".

They are young kids that were having a good time due to the lack of other activities for young kids. There are more problems with the ppeople in "uniform" that really are a danger to the people of Laredo. Now these young kids are going to have his record tarnished for the rest of their lives.
