Local leaders observe immigration debate in DC

One day after the White House arrival of Mexican President Felipe Calderon, Laredo Mayor Raul Salinas says reaction to Calderon’s address was surprising.
In the President's speech, statistics were told of the over 70,000 weapons confiscated in Mexico over the last year, most of which are from the U.S.
Working together, according to Calderon, will go much further than working alone, and as Arizona’s controversial immigration law continues making headlines. Calderon noted the hard work Mexico has done to help solve the issues of undocumented workers.
While Congress has not agreed to take up an immigration reform law, local leaders hope Calderon’s efforts will make an impact.

Raulito has been a huge disappointment as mayor. He ran as pro-law enforcement, rule of law, former federal agent(FBI) who was going to enforce our laws and stand for the United States, unfortunately it appears his heart & soul belong to old mexico. It's going to be a tough race for him in november if he keeps up this pro-illegal alien rhetoric.

Raul Salinas catering to Mexico as usual. No government official here or in Washington has the guts to say it like it is. The guns go into Mexico because there is demand for guns What does the 'Aduana " in Mexico do? Nothing. The problem is very simple. Most of our city, state and federal leaders are pro-Mexico because of the so called "benefits" we get from Mexican shoppers. None of these leaders want to offend Mexican politicians and tell them that it is their fault that Mexico is in the shambles it is now. Mexicans will NOT stop shopping in the United States because what they have in Mexico to buy (clothing, groceries etc) lacks quality, quality that they find and want in U.S. products. In regards people shopping in Laredo, well that is not going to happen. Only the dollar stores and the "chinito" stores downtown sell. Why? The place looks awful. Old buildings that needed to be refurbished 10 years ago. No eye candy for the shoppers but mucho catering to the Mexican shoppers.

(PART 2)That is why Mexico does not respect the United States. Now Calderon goes to the White House and to Congress and tells them basically that all the problems Mexico has are the U.S. fault. The worst thing is that our leaders applauded him. Bunch of hypocrites. We need to get rid of this "pobrecito Mexico" attitude and work to help our people here in the United States. In regards to Immigration, Calderon feels that his people should be treated with dignity and respect. The same respect they gave to the borderline when they entered the United States without permission. The reason they do it, does not justify the crime. I bet that if a person breaks in to your house in the middle of the night or when you are not home, you will not be at all pleased. Ni que fueran la Goldilocks!!! Thousands of people are waiting to legalize and these law breakers want an easy break. Go back home and to the end of the line.

The core of the matter is Calderon is looking out for himself, he is desperate to keep those people here and working. more than 21 billion dollars is being sent back to Mexico. Hopefully the voters in November will remember all those that gave Calderon a standing ovation and vote them out of office.

It was an outrage that our congress got a lecture from their own floor, and the liberal democrats stood up and applauded, including Henry Cuellar. The only congressmen and women who love their country are the ones that remained in their seats, don't blame America first, and are for LEGAL immigration. What a bunch of pathetic, shameless weasels! I appeal to all conservatives in Congressional district 28. Let's support Henry Cuellar's opponent in November. I don't know what we can do about Mayor Salinas except vote him out and replace him with someone who doesn't pander to Mexico.

During the Mexican Revolution (1910-1930) yes up to 1030 and probably beyond, millions of weapons were sold to any "revolutionary" and Government alike. There is a lot of money in arms dealing. The difference is that now.. Top of the line brand new weapons are being sold by American Arms dealers to the Narco-Cartels. like the 50 caliber rifle. not even the mexican Army uses those rifles. If you had been in the U. S Army or Marines you know the firepower of those weapons. what is worrysome is what type of weapons are being sold next. you think about it.

The president of Mexico was wrong , but I'm pretty sure he was given the ok by the White House to go ahead and get that speech . I believe I would have stayed seated too . Many heads of states give speeches all the time , but , none tell the United States that our way of life and our laws are wrong . What's next , the ruler of Iran to come in and give a lecture to us for condeming him . I believe we need to get our backbone back and stop saying we're sorry for everything we've done . The Mexican president did not tell the congress what to do, you need to understand the message, the American weapons that are flowing to Mexico are going to come back with the drug dealers. not doub about it, those American weapons are already killing a lot of inocent people, and they might one day get used to topple the Mexican government, if that happens.. Has anybody stopped to think how disrespectfull this subject is towards the veterans? The veterans that faught,killed and some even died to protect the soverenty of this country meaning the right to set forth laws and enforcing them. The fact that a foreign country is threatening to cause harm wheather it be physical,economical or any other kind should be taken as an ack of aggression and sanctions should be levied against said foreing government. As being a proud grandson of a Korean conflict veteran and son of a Vietnam veteran I find this very sad if the veteran administration and every true american in this country sits by and let them basicaly laugh at the price they payed. Try telling the millions of veterans the thier sacrifice means nothing, that thier disabilitating injurries were for nothing.Since were letting a foreign country dictating what laws can be enforced. As for the free ride,if you live in Laredo you know whos recieving food stamps,medicade and houseing. Heres proof, Remember when the houseing authority started requireing proof of citizenship in order to qualify for an application for houseing. Who were the ones to protest in front of the houseing autoritys office. That shows thier mentality that if its not handed to them they'll take it by force like they always do. They even forced thier way into the country... And even with my condition I still work,pay my mortgage, car payment, insurance and won't accept government handouts because I know that tere are people that need it more than I do.
