Frustration Grows With Mines Road Traffic

By KGNS News

Frustration grows among drivers along a construction site near Mines Road.

Pro 8 News Reporter Brenda Medina spoke to City officials to find out what's causing the huge traffic back up

The spokesperson for the City says they are working to ease traffic congestion, but so far drivers say they haven't seen a change in traffic flow.

“We've had this problem since January.”

Driving through Inter-America and Mines Road is becoming a major headache for drivers.

Juanita Villareal\WORKS NEAR CONSTRUCTION SITE “You have to go all the way to the next entry and come back, just to get in here.”

David Craig\SOUTHSIDE “We just came down to deliver some boats and we didn't expect this much traffic.”

Traffic was at a crawl as crews work to repave this small section.

Cars, trucks and big rigs were all forced to share one lane each.

Juanita Villareal who works in the area says she can't even leave her own office during the day.

“At lunch especially, if you want to go to lunch forget it. You can't do anything.”

One of the main problems is the synchronization of these traffic signals.

We timed them and the red light lasts two minutes. Once it's finally green it only gives drivers about 20 seconds to get through this congested intersection.

“Sometimes it's 10 min., sometimes it's 15, sometimes it's 20 minutes.”

We spotted officers directing traffic, but drivers say that was the first time there was traffic management.

Andy Martin\SOUTHSIDE “Anything they can do to improve the flow of traffic.”

The spokesperson for the City says from now on police officers will be out there directing traffic, and if congestion is not reduced, he says they will work to synchronize traffic signals.

That is why we moved from Muller's ranch and back at Del Mar Section C, less traffic, closer to key locations and our jobs.
