There are still hundreds of children migrant workers in our city. Monday, City Council is moving to support the Care Bill, which Congress is hoping to pass that would impose age and work hour standards for children.
We spoke to Mayor Raul Salinas about HR 3564. "We want to make sure violators are punished. There is a $500 dollar fine for violators. We also have to protect them from hazardous materials. There are 400 kids at UISD, so we need to ensure that we support this bill," says Laredo Mayor Raul Salinas.
Right now, the legal age for children to work on farms is 12 years old.
