Two arrested in 8-liner raid

By KGNS News

The Laredo Police Department has raided yet another eight liner business.
In this case it's the second time this particular business is raided for paying out more than five dollars in cash.
Last night police had a search warrant for the place located in the 23 hundred block of Jacaman Road.
At the establishment police were able to seize more than fifty one thousand dollars.
Forty thousand of that was inside the machines.
" One of the machines had well over 12 hundred dollars just in one machine. Its hard for us to believe that are willing to invest that much for a chance to win toilet paper or soap,” says Investigator Joe Baeza with the Laredo Police Department.
Also arrested were 50 year old Luo Feng and 30 year old Sergio Luna Lira.
They are facing charges of gambling promotion.
They are at the Webb County Jail pending magistration.
Police seized 193 mother boards from the eight liner machines.

This madness hurts Laredo said on Saturday, Jun 12 at 2:05 AM

Our local leaders running for election or reelection, please shut them all down. We don't need these money laundering businesses in Laredo. There is reason that they were run out of Zapata. Laredo, let's catch up to Zapata Texas's standards. Shut them down and never let them return to our great city.

Whoa, hold on thereWhIff these establishments were closed down, where can my ahueita go for recreation? Surely your not suggesting she go all the way to Eagle Pass to contribute to their economy, are you? I say, if people want it, let them have it and you mind your own house and stay out of those places by minding your own business.

Tbis establishments don't pay their share of sales tax and probably not even employee taxes. If people have this kind of money to go at the local level, they can afford to drive to Eagle Pass. Too many people go to forget about their problems and just end up getting addicted. Too many lonely people here!!!

I am glad KGNS is covering this arrests and are alerting the public about this corrupted establishments. I hope they keep following up and inform the public about the filthy conditions behind the scenes as far as food that is served and educate people. What needs to happen is PD needs have a few customers arrested and put alongside the owners, they are just as guilty.

Everyone should know that there are a few winners but the house is always the big winner. Close the illegal ones down for good and jail time for the owners or the Texas should legalize gambling but put strict regulations on the establishments so they will be safe and a fair place to go to.

As this is a political year for mayor, city council, this issue should become a hot topic. My question would be, How much in sales taxes are this establisments reporting and paying? All this businesses registered with the state or at the local level and legit? Do they have a license to serve food and liquor?

These businesses don’ need a license to serve food nor liquor since they are not selling either. What should be looked into is where the fees paid by these establishments are being funneled to. Where is it going? Did you know that for a full year’s registration permit some pay up to $100,000? Where is that money? I understand that these businesses paying these fees are given a few months to operate without impingement by our local finest then after 7 to 9 months later they are raided providing a great cash cow for Mr. Potato head and the managers junket trips (what a great racket). So, these businesses are paying into the system but no one knows (except the city manager) where these funds are going. I don’t believe it’s for better regulation of these establishments.

Food and liquor is abudant from what i hear. It was covered by the local press for everyone to see. Feeding clients food in unsanitary conditions is a crime. People can die from food poising, especially the elderly. Smoking, now that is the icing on the cake!! They get arrested and reopen, just like the owners who got arrested last week under new names. The eight liner on mcpherson, atlantis also reopened. As Baeza said, they give everyone toilet paper to walk out with. This is an election year. I hope there are major questions and regulations for this establisments.

I think that the U.S. Treasury Dept. or the IRS should be looking into these businesses. They are raking in the money and are paying only local fees to operate. These 8 liners must be shut down. They are breaking the law. They are laundering money. They are not helping Laredo.

These business are operating without paying income taxes nor employee taxes. They should be reported by our local officials to the proper authorities. It's election season, lets see which public server steps up to the plate.

Laredoans should make this a topic this election year. All candidates have facebook, twitter, etc!! KGNS and other media and organizations will be having debates of which the public can participate via questions. KGNS should do an investigative report as a follow up on all 8liners who reopen and question our PD, city leaders, etc.
