El Cenizo neighborhood infested with ticks, calls Pro 8 News for help

By KGNS News

Residents fearing for their pets and their own safety turn to Pro 8 News.

They say their city is filled with ticks and no one is doing anything to help them.

Residents say the problem is out of control. Some of their dogs have even died.

We found several homes throughout El Cenizo with dogs covered with ticks.

Ricardo Romo says these tiny critters glued to the ears and bodies of these pets have already killed several neighborhood dogs.

Ticks could be seen crawling on the walls of some of these homes.

Romo says this week a tick bit him twice on his leg; his daughter was also bitten on the arm.

He fears if nothing is done soon, the ticks will begin taking a toll on residents.

Raul Reyes, El Cenizo mayor tells us he recognizes the tick problem is an epidemic that has been surging on the outskirts, but not within the city.

But Romo says the problem within city limits is evident on the dogs and throughout the neighborhood.

Mayor Reyes says he's going to take a look at the problem and will be sending a health inspector out to visit the homes but he also urges all residents to keep their properties clean.

Residents are urged to call city hall with any concerns.

yes "Surprised" you are right, the mayor is to busy looking for love in Nuevo Laredo he has no time to take care of the problems the city has to deal with because he is not there. Mr Reyes doesn't even live there but noone is suppost to know this. He has a boyfriend in Nuevo Laredo and could careless what goes on in EL Cenizo.

Is anyone surprised? I mean really? We have had a dead horse out there, people complaining about the trash, and people even seen dealing drugs in that "city". The "mayor" looks like a kid barely out of high school, and he states its "only a problem on the outskirts". Uh huh, sure it is big guy. Keep telling yourself that. How much do you want to bet the mayor doesn't even live in the same "city/town" his constituents live?
