El Metro Celebrating Dump The Pump Week

By KGNS News

The national Dump The Pump campaign has been going all week in an effort to get you out of your car and onto the bus.

Sandy Esparza of El Metro,"National dump the pump day is a day that encourages people to ride public transportation and save money instead of driving a car."

Tomorrow they will finish off the week long event with El Metro employees handing out free rides and food.

"We're going to start it off in the morning. El Metro staff will ride inside the buses and we're going to distribute free ride tickets to thank our current riders."

Mayor Salinas is glad to be a part of the event, "We are giving away passes so they can try it out and I think it's a good campaign and it will bring results."

Not only do you save money by riding the bus, but one woman feels the benefits with exercise as well.

Local bus rider Jennifer Zacate says, "It gets you to move around and use your body because when you own a car you do less walking than you should."

"The first thing they lose is their cars, so they have to depend on an alternate way of travel."

The mayor is also looking for your input on how to make El Metro more effective.

"We encourage the public to give us ideas on how can we make El Metro more efficient, friendlier and provide good customer service. we want to hear from the community."

I think you should fix the buses first. I saw a bus on International & Loop 20 with the windows open meaning it had no a/c
