City & County officials come to an agreement on the Veterans Museum

By KGNS News

Ernesto Sanchez is a happy man, "it seemed like it was going to be forever but thank God we're finally going to have a museum right here in Laredo."

Local veterans breathing a huge sigh of relief. Witnessing history in the making as both City and County officials sign an agreement to finally transform a historic home into a Veterans Museum.

Dr. Hector Farias, "the house is where I grew up so it has very special memories".

It took over five years of debates between City and County officials but finally both have agreed to each pitch in $500,000 to restore the facility.

"its been a long time but finally the day is here."

"it feels great we never do enough for the veterans."

A one million dollar investment veterans say they're ready for. They say many people are already donating items to display at the new facility.

"We've got something from a ship swords and we have uniforms."

For now architects have taken over, designing what they say will be a wonderful space to display precious items that will help tell courageous stories. Items that will finally have a home.

"More young men from laredo join the marine corp than any city in this country."

"I'm gonna cherish this for a long time."

"Its one of the most beautiful things."

"To me that building is a treasure."

"Thank God its going to be done."

So they're going to dump $1,000,000 into this dump. I'm sure glad we are not in a recession.
