New Trend In Car Theft

By KGNS News

The Laredo Police Department has seen an increase in a new and risky way of car thefts in the city.

Police say people who are selling their personal vehicle and putting an ad in the paper are the victims.

According to police, the person interested in the vehicle makes arrangements to see and test-drive the vehicle.

But when they take it for a ride, they don't come back.

Joe Baeza says, “you should take whatever proactive measure to ensure that that person, by going to the test-drive, taking a pic with camera phone.”

Police say in one incident, the owner of the car asked for an I.D. and the person gave them a social security card.

When she gave that to police, they found out that card had been reported stolen as well.
