Loop 20 or McPherson

By KGNS News

A new overpass is going to be built at the intersection of Clark and the Loop to help ease traffic in that congested area, but is projected to cost over $40 million to construct. Is the Loop really worth all this time and money?

Wayne Nance thinks so, "I believe so, it's an alternate route that provides another way to get around town. I understand they are upgrading as part of a master plan."

Guadalupe Davila agrees, " I wish there was less lights but they need the lights so they can cross."

Cesar Valdez wants them to tweek the lights, "I hope that we can find a solution, maybe with the lights. Maybe they can stay green a little longer instead of switching to red."

We poised the question of whether they thought it was quicker to take the Loop or McPherson and their responses were not unanimous. Mr. Davila said the Loop.

"Oh yea way better,. I take McPherson and if it's around 4 or 5 McPherson's terrible."

While Valdez said of McPherson

"In town, I think it would be better in town."

So we ventured out to find out the truth.....

We drove both from Clark St., with the Loop taking on average 12 minutes to complete the 8.6 mile trek without being stopped by a single light. McPherson took on average almost 14:51 to cover 7.1 miles with stop lights galore. So in the end, is the Loop really that much of a time saver and worth all this extra money?

"I say if you didn't have a loop, than you'd be a lot longer because everybody would have to go through McPherson."

Laredo's infrastructure was poorley planned out. Bob Bullock loop is getting to be a hassle. Laredo needs more highways built not just one.

My bet it that CEC gets the contract or is included in the contract. They are big contributors to Belmares and his anointed replacement Navarro. Just follow the money and you'll find the truth.

It's embarrassing to know there are no overpasses or an extended highway system in Laredo. It's a border city. JESUS. The city council should just learn by example. San Antonio's highway system is perfect. They should just copy it. And of the funding, where do they get it? If they fought for it, fought the state for it, did their job, it wouldn't be an issue. This city rakes in millions if not billions of dollars. That it goes to Dallas/Houston is a shame because it goes to show the city council does not care for its citizens. How the hell did this city become the largest small city in Texas? It doesn't even have skyscrapers! WOW! It should be a metropolitan city. It's so embarrassing. T_T

They are going to need the over pass and a few more once the loop is connected to 83 making another way in to Laredo from the south.

Kickback commissioners said on Tuesday, Jun 29 at 4:45 PM

Watch and see that they give the contract to Dannenbuam. I will bet 1 million dollars that they get the contract. They have donated thousands to the commissioners and Jerry Garza has been pushing for them since he needs the money for his re-election campaign. That is why he made an issue about the lights last month......

The question is not whether or not to get rid of the Loop. That would be crazy. Now we have a choice between McPherson and the Loop. So what if there are some lights on the Loop? There are certainly fewer than McPherson. We should be grateful for both roads.
