It's first event of its kind in Laredo: Border Beer Fest 2012 will be the first ever beer celebration in the Gateway City, giving South Texas a chance to experience the flavors of more than 100 different beers from around the world including Germany, Japan, Turkey, England and domestic brews from all over the U.S.
Wednesday night was the big announcement and people from the community were on hand to talk about the upcoming event.
The 2012 Beer Fest will be Saturday, February 4th, at the LIFE Downs Pavilion.
Doors open at 6 pm and the event runs through 11 pm.
Tickets are $15 pre-sale for people choosing beer and food, while those who choose not to drink beer can buy their ticket for $10.
Proceeds from the Border Beer Fest go to benefit the South Texas Academic Rising Scholars and the Rio Grande International Study Center.

I bet a lot of over-aged drinking will happen... Me included... "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." (Benjamin Franklin)

The headline should not have an ! (exclamation point) , you're a news organization, not a cheerleader for events.

When the city of Laredo and other organizations happily push the beer tequila, and wines is to have the public chained to the ignorance. " you drink, you become stupid, you kill, you go to prison, I collect the money"

It is your moral obligation to prohibit these type of events, You try to turn the general public in a city of alcoholics and divided families with your "wonderful events".

Awe poor Laredo, all these events do is give Laredo a bad name...

I have seen events like these in other cities (i.e. Dallas), but with proper surveillance and with the offer of free rides like another commenter mentioned. I don't believe this is a bad idea, but maybe not the best to fundraise for a "scholarship" for children, and it really comes down to how the event is handled.

gonna be a lot of pukin going on with all the different types of beer everyone will be chugging down. All you can drink for 15.00. Better to be safe and off the streets.

of all the things they come up with to get money. why cant they focus on activities for kids around this time? just another deal where drinking seems to have more priority than just having fun

Number one Laredo past time, drinking and eating, funny how almost no other activity makes it here, does that mean we are all a bunch of fat lazy drunks?

Great!! Really!! Fund raiser for children's scholarships? Beer Fest-drinking, drinking and more drinking! This is the most stupid idea I have ever heard as a fund raiser for children. Then we complain that our kids are under age drinkers, stoners etc. Why not we are good teachers and role models for them.
80500538L said on Saturday, Jan 28 at 12:36 AM
Stupid, you want to be a role model for kids? You want to help local kids? Then do what Pro8News has done. Become a sponsor to the South Texas Academic Rising Scholars yourself. You dislike the BeerFest idea? Fine. Are you going to make a contribution to STARS and RGISC anyways to set an example?
80541121L said on Saturday, Jan 28 at 12:53 AM
And by the way, according to the S.T.A.R.S. website, two of the top sponsors to S.T.A.R.S. are Budweiser and Anheuser-Busch.
80541424other sponsors said on Saturday, Jan 28 at 1:01 AM
Hey I have an idea, let's get high times magazine to sponsor an event to raise money for scholarships...
80541549Stupid said on Saturday, Jan 28 at 11:57 AM
Well L, beer companies may be sponsors but that does not mean that to raise money you pay $15.00 and get drunk to drink beer!! All to raise money for children's scholarships. Really!! As to my contribution to scholarships, I do make contributions. Again, Border Beer Fest - drink up and go home under the influence. Oh but be sure to tell your kids, don't drink and don't drive!!!

Cmon guys, don't be hating. I know it must be two guys just writing these comments over and over. Time to wake up people. Laredo is not a small town anymore. Welcome to the real world. If I can drink some beer and benefit some kids, that is awesome. Ill spend $50 at a local country bar and it benefits some local criminals. Id rather spend it somewhere for a good cause. That is all I got to say about it. Now you can respond with a hate comment after you finish waching star trak in your bedroom at your mothers house where you still live. If you don't like it just stay home and don't attend this event.
